Go back to “All-American Prophet”.

Getting Run Out of Town
“The Mormons kept on searching for that place to settle down,
But every time they thought they’d found it, they got kicked out of town!”

Members of the Church were not just “kicked out of town”. Their trek west was a violent one, marked with death and persecution. In this modern era, there was even an extermination order signed by the governor of Missouri. The governor directed that

“the Mormons must be treated as enemies, and must be exterminated or driven from the State if necessary for the public peace—their outrages are beyond all description.”

You can learn more about the persecution felt by the Saints using the two books mentioned above – Our Heritage: A Brief History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Church History in the Fullness of Times student manual.
